The president spoke from an entrance at the Trump National Golf Course after meeting with US ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
Highlights, with quotes to follow: The president said that he had not ruled out a "military option" in Venezuela, where he said the situation had deteriorated to a "mess." He did not say whether it would be U.S. led and did not answer a question about whether he wanted regime change there or in North Korea.
The president confirmed he would be in Washington Monday for a "major press conference."
On North Korea, the president said he would be speaking with China's Xi tonight. He said of the crisis that "hopefully it will all work out" with a "peaceful solution" and not a "bad solution" that he declined to describe. He reiterated his determination to protect Guam and denied that there was daylight between him and Mr. Tillerson on messaging, saying it was a combined message. Mr. Tillerson agreed, saying that he believed Mr. Trump had made he prefers a diplomatic solution.
On Mitch McConnell, "he should have had health care approved", that it was a surprise that the votes weren't there and that the majority leader should have been more aggressive in locking in the votes.
